Today marks the 55th anniversary of Barkston, Home of The Plastic People. Our heritage dates back to August 1969 where business started from premises in Low Road, Hunslet, Leeds in West Yorkshire.
Within 4 years the business has grown quickly and relocated to purpose built premises at Domestic Street Industrial Estate, Holbeck. With increasing requirements for value added services to sheet plastic sales, our plastic fabrication division was born.
A small plastic engineering business was acquired to help meet rising demands for fabrication and machining and, from this, Barkston Engineering Ltd grew and was officially founded in 1973. Focus was placed on developing people knowledge and expertise.
Our plastic fabricators were the first to become CSWIP qualified and the business became the first plastics engineering company to conform to BS5750 for quality management and assurance which we hold today, updated to ISO9001.
With its engaged and expert team, the business growth continued through further acquisitions giving the company strength and depth in both sheet sales and plastic engineering enabling growth and reach into global markets.
We take a lot of pride in our company, our products, services and team and our intent to be one of the most trusted plastic brands, but ultimately, we exist to serve our customers.
